Galadriel Thompson - Director

Dance, and fine art have always been in my life, and then I found theater to place words to my dancing collages.  Finding film was just the final stop in my search for some complete use of my body and brain.  Although my starting points for a piece will always begin with dance and visual images.

Four years ago I got serious about devoting myself to film, and met my husband/collaborator, Tony Bono.  Since than we’ve been able to get more done than either of us have ever been able to do before.  We write the scripts together, and if I direct the piece he will shoot it, and if he directs it I design it, and basically stand by each others side through every point of the process.  What turns out is some melting of beautiful images and haunting stories.

In the last four years I’ve been heavily working in the art department on feature films in order to pay bills.  I’ve worked in different positions and with many different budgets; from production designer to art assistant – 100 million dollar productions to 10,000 dollar ones.  In between the jobs I’ve directed many shorts and completed two screenplays.

The work that can be seen recently is “Trailer Trash”, a short inspired by old Heavy Metal comic magazines: a combination of sex and guilt and violence churning through a mobius strip. And this short film “Crashing”, inspired by sixties photography full of the bitterness of nostalgia.

Currently we’re in devlopment with our feature script “Down By The River”, and if all continues to go as planned, should be shooting it next summer.
