This
interesting film project started back in February 2002 when Elizabeta
and Kathryn were sitting in a coffee house listening to a live
performance by Stacey Evans singing "Violet Skies". Her angelic voice
and her beautiful words triggered these two first time writers to
challenge themselves in writing a unique story about friendship, love,
regret, loss and betrayal that would bring the same feeling to paper
that Stacey had brought to song.
Within
months of writing, Elizabeta and Kathryn were ready to bring in their
third partner Brandon for fresh insight. As you can imagine it was a
tough road for the three, having to learn compromise, learn patience
and learn how to focus with three artistic minds of all equal
importance. But with their determination and passion the story
blossomed into a wonderful
full length script.
Now with
a finished script, it was fundraiser time! With the hard work of
friends such as Mario Vidovic, Nick Bergh, Patrick & Sheri Carson,
Travis Roever, Kevin Dobski, Clint Flume, and Greg Lyons the first
fundraiser was underway. Because of Dan, who donated his home and
time, and bands such as The Alibi, Super J, The Neighbors and DJ John,
the first fundraiser moved the film closer than ever to production.
By July,
and after another outstanding fundraiser, the three realized that they
couldn't quite pull off a feature length film. So instead of
getting discouraged, they sought out the advice and guidance of
Galadriel Thompson. With Galadriel's experience and assistance the
script took a new approach that allowed the film to be produced within
the available budget; she had transformed it into a solid short film.
Her care and time put into the project made their decision to have her
direct the piece all the more exciting.
Now that the budget was in place and
Galadriel had finished the screenplay, it was time to shoot! November
1st marked the first day of shooting for Crashing. Brandon,
Elizabeta and Kathryn had previously worked with actor Brian Fowler
but had not worked with actor Andy Langham, yet all were pleasantly
surprised by the level chemistry they had with one another. It was
this chemistry, and the chemistry the Director had with each actor,
that created such phenomenal screen performances. Two long hard days
shooting in the desert and two rainy days shooting at the beach
completely bonded this cast and crew as they forged ahead to
completion.
The talented DP, Tony Bono, worked
sided by side with the director, actors and crew faithfully
through each hot day and through each rainstorm with always an
encouraging word to say. Before the film was done shooting everyone
knew that Crashing would be an incredibly visual piece with him on
board because of his creative eye and detail to lighting.
The hard work and dedication of all
the crew and cast allowed the film to wrap in only four days!
By mid 2004 Crashing was completed.
Now everyone could share the fruits of all the hard labor. Within the
first few months of festival submissions, Crashing was accepted into
the prestigious Los Angeles International Film Festival and will be
screened at the famous Arc Light Theater in September, 2005.
The team is really proud and excited
to share this wonderful film with the world!
